Day 5 & 6 – wedding stuff

So I took a trip to our local Michaels to pick up some things for my bridesmaid boxes. They are coming together rather nicely if I might say so! I have hesitated on taking a photo because they aren’t 100% done, but once they are I will update with a photo.

I have to admit that planning a wedding is extremely fun! My best friend, carly, is even super excited to plan. We are meeting up for lunch this weekend to get some ideas out.

We are also very excited about our venue, the Montague Inn in Saginaw MI. Not only is it gorgeous, but it really offers the whole package. It is big enough for our entire bridal party to stay, close enough to my family that lives in MI, hosts outdoor and indoor weddings (good cause I have no idea what the weather is like), offer plated and buffet dinners – along with hors d’oeuvres and an open bar. ALL FOR ABOUT A THIRD OF WHAT I WOULD PAY IN VEGAS!!

In all honesty, I’m just excited to be marrying my best friend, the greatest other half and father!

On another note, I have been making it a point to work out throughout my day! today it was arms and legs, tomorrow will be abdominals. My biggest concern right now is my arms. I HAVE to get them in tip top shape before my wedding!

Day 4 – Saturday

We woke up pretty early this morning – so we headed off to our normal walk, came home, put Amelia down for a nap, and I headed out to get my nails done. Calvin doesn’t fully understand why I need to spend $40 on getting my nails done every 3 weeks, but I also don’t understand why he absolutely had to have the Vapor machine he chose, plus spend $25-$35 every two weeks for juice and parts.. It’s just the world we live in 🙂

Katy and Ryder came for a visit today. I haven’t seen them in MONTHS – Ryder is so stinking big, and all BOY! Rough and Tough. She brought subway over for lunch, which is something I don’t typically eat, but I chose a BLT so Amelia could eat the bacon (SHE LOVES HER SOME BACON), and I would just the eat the veggies. Let me just say that when you baconaholic toddler winces at the sight of bacon and chooses to throw it out ON HER OWN, you begin realizing how gross the stuff really is. She wouldn’t even eat their pickles!

Needless to say, we will avoid subway at all costs 🙂

As the evening drew nearer, I could feel my back spasms coming back. It is hard to explain how they feel, but if I had to I would say that it feels like an elephant randomly takes a seat on my spine and ribs. Everything locks up and it is hard to breathe. The spasms don’t hurt all that bad, but my muscles are so tense afterwards that standing up or sitting down causes some discomfort. I am not one to take medication, but muscle relaxers have been a life saver the last two nights.

Lastly, Calvin and I did some more wedding planning – We have decided on tans and browns for the groomsmen, they will wear vests (or suspenders), bowties, and dark wash jeans. Bridal party will wear a dress of their choice within the color scheme we have picked out (teal, salmon). I have to say that planning a wedding is so much easier when you have your other half helping out with ideas. The last 6 months have been so stressful because I have been doing all the planning on my own. The last two nights though – what a relief that Calvin has stepped up and is participating int he planning 🙂

Day 3 – evening

So my back is all of a sudden spasming, well for the last couple hours, so I am now sitting in bed trying to queue up a movie and relax with pinning some wedding ideas.

Calvin and I were up all night looking for venues in or around the city we got engaged in (Bay City MI). We found this amazing Japanese Tea Garden that hosts weddings, and a beautiful B & B mansion right up the street for all the guests. Needless to say we finally feel AMAZING about a location. I emailed them about more information, so I am just waiting for a response at this time.

Anyhoo, Amelia is asleep, and I’m feeling pretty lousy, waiting for this muscle relaxer to kick in so I can at least sit up comfortably.

I am however thankful that my back didn’t start spasming before calvin got home. I’m not sure what I would do being immobilized with a very active toddler!  Oy vey!

Day 3 – morning

So part of mine and Calvin’s new years resolutions is taking more walks. We not only have a rambunctious toddler, but two rambunctious dogs that need lots of outside time. Today we walked roughly 2.5 miles. First to a local park, and then detoured through a neighboring neighborhood to get back home.

Another part of my resolution is to lose weight (cliché much? Sure why not!). Our wedding is a little over 10 months away, and I have 30 lbs to go before I even try on a wedding dress. I am giving myself 2 months to shed the weight! This mean, by march, I should be 140-145 lbs.

I am also going back to vegetarian/vegan diet. I will have one cheat day a week, but will try to eat either fish or dairy on those days. I’d really like to steer clear of poultry, beef and pork all together, but I will not turn my nose to it if say.. we try a new restaurant, or Calvin’s mom makes chicken adobo. . Yum!

Also, Calvin was busy hanging things this morning! We have been moved in for nearly 4 months, and our walls are still pretty bare. I love having artwork up, and it makes me glad that pieces I’ve personally painted are proudly displayed all downstairs – our bedroom on the other hand was bare, so calvin took it upon himself to “spruce” it up 🙂

My mom made us a coat hanger for Christmas, which is hung in our closet now, and Calvin received an amazing sketch of Lincoln from my dad. The Picasso drawings above the bed have been around for years, and it’s nice seeing it find a new place in our new home.

Day 2 – 2014

Calvin and I had a date day today. We first went to an early lunch (11am) at Archi’s Thai restaurant.  By far the most delicious thai food either of us has had in Vegas. We ate lite because we had a 12:20 showing of Saving Mr. Banks to attend. We are both big Tom Hanks fans, so we were extremely excited to see it (especially after hearing all the amazing reviews on it). It did not fail. We both loved it! After the movie ended we did a little shopping; first to Ross to return a couple things, then to Bed Bath and Beyond for a dish drying mat. We followed Bed Bath and Beyond with a trip to Best Buy to pick myself up a new phone case. I recently got water in the charge port – or shall I say Amelia did, and then today we dropped my phone into a big bowl of Tom Kha soup at lunch. Needless to say, it needed a case, and badly! We also picked up a new case for Amelia’s new iPad mini. Our final destination was starbucks to spend some of our Christmas gift cards we received. Calvin bought bought a new tea travel mug, and I bought a new to go cup for my smoothies.

I am now trying to get in the mood of wedding planning; which let me be the first to say,  I just don’t feel cut out for this! 10 months until our wedding, and I have nothing to show but a pinterest board filled with ideas.. Oy vey!

So, I’m not so good at keeping up with the blog

It has been just under a year since my last blog entry, and all I can say is WOW! 2013 was an amazing year, filled with amazing memories.

We celebrated Amelia’s first birthday in April. It was a pink lemonade theme, and we hosted it at a local park. So many loved ones came out to celebrate with us, and as any one can expect, Amelia was spoiled rotten.

In May I celebrated my second mothers day and 25th birthday. June we celebrated father’s day, which was shortly followed by Calvin’s 26th birthday in July.

During July we went to visit my family in Michigan, and Amelia was able to meet her great grandpa for the first time. Memories we will have, and hold dear for years to come. We were able to visit Mackinaw island during our visit, where I just so happen to break my DSLR, and Amelia managed to almost completely break our point and shoot sony. Being camera – less on vacation is never fun, especially when taking photos is somewhat of a past time for me.

During our visit we were able to attend the 4th of July festivities held in a local park on Saginaw river, and even saw the magnificent tall ships when they came in and docked for the week. Ballads and brews was another event we attended, where we were able to try out some local beer and good eats. The live entertainment wasn’t all that bad either.

On the last day of our vacation, Calvin proposed. He was shakey, and nervous, which made the proposal even more memorable (as if it isn’t already). I remember thinking how adorable her was getting down on one knee, choking back the words. I personally feel that if your boyfriend doesn’t get choked up when he asks you to marry him, then he must be doing something wrong. Just saying.

Anyway, I forgot to mention that Calvin received a promotion at work! After nearly 7 years, and non stop hard work and dedication, it felt great to know that they were recognizing him for the outstanding employee he really is. Us gals couldn’t be more proud.

In August we started school. Calvin changed his degree from business to engineering, and I finally settled on a degree of history, with a minor in journalism and photography. I am happy to report that I finished my first semester with a 4.0 average! Calvin did great as well, finishing just under a 3.0 average.  I gotta give it to him. Full time student, full time work, dad, fiance, etc. He has a lot on his plate. I’m just happy he is finally back in school making effort towards something he is passionate about.
The holidays have come and gone. Amelia was Minnie Mouse for Halloween, and let me just toot my horn and say that I made her costume myself! Minus the Minnie mouse ears beanie, that I bought off of another April 2012 mom, who I might say, does AMAZING things with yarn. I’ll add her link once I get to a computer.

Thanksgiving was somewhat of a blur this year. To be honest it didn’t feel like thanksgiving all that much seeing that Best Buy decided to open during normal thanksgiving hours, forcing us to celebrate on wednesday. Nontheless, we enjoyed our time together as a family and stuck with an untraditional theme by cooking a small chicken instead of turkey.
Of course once thanksgiving is over then Christmas just creeps up on you. I still find it hard to believe that it has already come and gone. This year was especially fun because Amelia was just in awe of all the Christmas spirit around her. Well, that is, minus visiting Santa. She HATED sitting on his lap! Which was surprising because she loves seeing him in movies, like our favorite, The Polar Express!

On another note, Amelia received some very special items this year for Christmas – her favorites are her Kid Kraft Kitchen, and Little Tykes Coupe car! There is not a waking moment where this child is not playing with one or the other.

She also received a very special table from Lola, that she uses ALL THE TIME! She serves up coffee, colors, plays tea, etc. At the table; I’m pretty sure her bum is imprinted on the seat already.

Oh! And i can’t forget Margo, her new American Doll from tia Marlith, and tio Spencer. We picked the name Margo for her doll because of the character in the movie Despicable Me. Millie and Margo just sounded good together. Her and Mahalee have matching dolls, and we just can’t wait to get them together for play dates.

All in all it was a great year. We ended it on an amazing note, spending time at home as a family. We bbq’d on our new grill (courtesy of santa, aka mom and dad), threw money in the air at midnight, and enjoyed a few glasses of wine. Amelia got all dressed up into her sparkly party dress, and partied the night away in toddler fashion.
