My dad and I got into a discussion the other day about how Jobs claims Google stole Apples “design”.
First off I’d like to say I’m Pro Apple and Android. I Agree that many portable device companies need to stay competitive – especially in the technology market we live in today, and even more so when going up against a successful company like Apple.
In my opinion – Google did it better when it comes to portable devices and Apple takes the cake, cupcakes, hell the entire bakery when it comes to laptops and desktops. I switched from an iPhone to an HTC Evo about 2 years ago because I was moving into an area of the city that AT&T and Verizon didn’t work well in. I expected to hate my new phone, but tolerate it because it was the closest thing to an iPhone I could get on Sprint. As of today – I would never choose to go back to Apple when it comes to my phone. We are even contemplating trading in our iPad for an Android tablet.
Those of you who know Calvin know he is, well WAS, Pro Apple all the way. I honestly never thought he would even consider going with Android.
So back to the discussion with my father… Is it “stealing” for a company to stay competitive? If Google did not “copy” Apples iOS and simply created a version (a better version in some peoples opinions) to stay current with the demands of their consumers – are they in the wrong? Also – what happens to technology if there isn’t a constant desire to be the best and create the best?
Although unlikely, if Apple were to win their lawsuit again Google and have the Android system shut down – what would happen to Apple? They would have no competition – which to them would be ideal, but what about their consumers? I can promise that without Android, Apple wouldn’t have been pushed to create an update that allowed a notification bar at the top of their phones, making iPhone and iPad a little more user friendly.
Wait.. Does this mean that Apple stole Notifications Bars from Android? I smell a lawsuit 😛
Gozer watching over Amelia
I grew up with dogs and would consider myself a dog person.
It’s heart warming to see the bond formed already between Amelia and Gozer.
Gozer was attached to my belly all throughout my pregnancy. I had no doubts that him and Amelia would be best friends. That was until we brought her home. Gozer wasn’t the center of attention anymore which made him keep his distance at first.
I’m so glad to see that has changed. He is as protective and caring towards her as he is towards me. I can’t wait to see how their bond grows overtime.
I can’t believe my little 6lb 11oz – 19.25″ baby girl is already this big. I remember how little she was in her bouncer. Now look at her.. Calvin always says that he can’t wait for her to be bigger and more interactive. I for one get sad at how fast it is all going by. You really don’t feel old until you have a child. It’s like they automatically make time speed up. I look forward to all the great times ahead of us.
Calvin works a closing shift tonight so Amelia and I took him to work and then ran some errands. It was hot, as usual, and was nice to finally be home – out of the heat.
I made soup for dinner. A lemon, soy and rice vinegar broth with fish and Bok Choy. I found it to be delicious for something I just kind of threw together.
Amelia fussed the entire time because of her teeth. I finally got her to take a nap which was a huge relief. I was in need of some quiet time.
Tomorrow Calvin and I are getting our hair done. I’m going back to brunette and he is getting his hair trimmed and dyed black. He does already have black hair, we are just performing maintenance to some greys 🙂 stay tuned for photos!
Little Ethan was born about a month and a half after Amelia and I have been dying to meet him. Amelia didn’t really know how to react to this knew baby, so she just stared intently at him.
We went to Samba Latte for some much needed coffee and then off to Target for some much needed shopping. Amelia and Ethan took turns being fussy. Once one stopped crying, the other one immediately started. It was like they tag teamed each other.
We drove back to Candace’s house to get out of the heat and catch up more on all that is new in the world of mommyhood. of course we had tons of notes to compare and stories to share.
I had to cut the visit with Candace and Ethan short because I had a photo shoot scheduled this afternoon with my close friend Shane. It was quick but served it’s purpose. I can’t wait to see the calendar 🙂
my parents and little brother came over to visit after the shoot. We enjoyed pizza and strawberry shortcake. We also tried to make sense of the Olympic opening ceremony for a bit. it was.. Uhm interesting to say the least.
Eventually bed called our name, and here we are… Watching Friends With Benefits winding down.
Calvin had today off so we wanted to do something as a family. We started out the day with a nice 45 minute walk with Amelia and the pooches. The dogs love going for walks and get excited even if we mention the word. It was nice outside when we began our walk being that it was only 8am. By time 830am hit I was melting. I thought for a moment it wasn’t going to get too uncomfortable because it was so early. Silly me, I’ve only lived in Las Vegas for 24 years. Not nearly enough time to know how Summers are here. 🙂 I’m glad we went for the walk though. It definitely set the tone for the day.
We knew that Lola Juliet was coming over to visit after work so we planned a lunch outing for the family. Yama Sushi is one of our favorite restaurants. We haven’t had sushi since Marlith and Spencer came to visit so we figured it was time. Boy was it overdue! The seaweed salad, seafood salad and rolls hit the spot. Just thinking about it makes me want to go back tomorrow. Yum!
After lunch we drove to check out this Filipino market called Seafood City. It was right around the corner from the restaurant so we couldn’t resist. I love Lola Juliet’s cooking so seeing all that goes into it was an interesting experience.
After the market we came home and enjoyed a much needed nap while Lola Juliet spent time with Amelia.
Once I was up from my nap, I got Amelia ready and we drove to Abbey’s house to visit with Abbey, Katy and little Isabelle. Abbey gave birth to Isabelle 1 month and 4 days before I had Amelia. Abbey and Katy are sisters and I know them from working at Terra West. The really awesome thing is that Katy is now expecting her first (a little boy) in December. I’m so extremely excited that our kids will all be so close in age! We all get along so well that it’s just natural to be around these ladies. I only expected to visit for an hour since Amelia was due for a bath and bed time was creeping up. I ended up being there for almost 3 hours, just chatting away with girls. It’s really nice getting out of the house and spending time with other moms.
Amelia and I finally made it home and she was in bed right away. Wore out from the non stop excitement I’m sure 🙂
Overall – it was a great day surrounded by great people.
Sorry for any grammatical errors or typos. It’s late and I’m tired 🙂
